MATERIAL IMAGINATION: DREAMING ROOMS

This project starts from material imagination. The first step is making a 6in×6in×6in solid object with two different materials, a stack of papar casted by plaster.

The second step is to double the volume with half materials and half space. Each piece of paper with the same size 6in×6in is covered by plaster, and stacted up to 12in high. The plaster-paper sheets and the gaps inbetween are changing over time bec

The epic drawing, with the size 8ft × 10ft, is evolved from the material experiments. The density of space and the change of spatial density throughout time is the blueprint of this drawing.

From the epic drawing, the characters of spatial density and fluidity are projected to a sectional model.

MATERIAL IMAGINATION: DREAMING ROOMS

IF I HAD A DIFFERENT LIFE

If I had a different life
I would be a tree
Standing forever. No sorrow nor joy
Half whispering in the earth
Half flying by the wind
Half spreading shadow
Half absorbing sunlight
Very quiet, very proud
Never cling, never require

If I had a different life
I would be a beam of light
Cutting through time. No wrong nor right
Half warbling at night
Half wandering under shine
Half sculpting tranquility
Half dissolving fight
Very soft, very sharp
Never retreat, never tired

If I had a different life
I would be a drop of water
Fleeting along rainbow eyes. No nostalgia nor desire
Half collapsing in the waves
Half reproducing in the sky
Half rippling
Half storming
Very warm, very hard
Never doubt, never sigh

The second step is to double the volume with half materials and half space. Each piece of paper with the same size 6in×6in is covered by plaster, and stacted up to 12in high. The plaster-paper sheets and the gaps inbetween are changing over time because of gravity. The lower, the denser; the higher, the looser.

The epic drawing, with the size 8ft × 10ft, is evolved from the material experiments. The density of space and the change of spatial density throughout time is the blueprint of this drawing.
